Foggy Morning in Alabama

Post Card from Alabama
It was a damp and foggy morning in Shelby County, with a threat of rain, but he took his camera out to see what they could see together. This first shot alone made it worth the trip.

The dock at the Beeswax Creek boat launch appears to be cantilevered out into space.

Falling Branch
No, I didn't shoot just as it fell, nor did I throw it up in the air. It was foggy down at Lay Lake, and some fisherman had tangled his line, broke off the branch, and left it hanging. The mono-filament was invisible.

They've lain here over 150 years. What's one more foggy, rainy day?

Cold and Foggy Morning

The boat dock at Beeswax Creek Park looks cantilevered into space.
Cold and Foggy Morning
The sun was up, but hard to see for the dense fog
Cold and Foggy Morning
The water was silky smooth.

One old guy (no comments from the peanut gallery, please) did launch his old flat bottomed johnboat to work his catfish trotlines like he does every day. He went very slowly, and this is all I could see from the dock.
Cold and Foggy Morning
The johnboat created only a tiny wake.

After a few minutes, you can't tell where the water stops and the fog starts.
Cold and Foggy Morning
As I was headed home, the fog had thinned a little and you could see all the way across Beeswax Creek, but it was still thick only a little downstream.
Cold and Foggy Morning
This guy finally decided to go ahead and launch. He was headed upstream to do a little bass fishing, but wanted to wait till he could see the water ahead pretty well. He had heard the main channel was full of floating logs washed into the lake by the recent heavy rains.

Fog and a Blue

It was foggy yesterday morning, so I went driving to find a picture to make.  When I got to Lay Lake, the fog had already lifted, so I drove back closer to my house and found a roadside pond where the fog was still cloaking the mountain, but not much in the valley.
On the way, I did spot this Great Blue Heron and stopped to shoot him out the window.  Handheld telephoto, so it's not very crisp, but if I had tried to get out of the truck to set up the tripod, I know he would have said, "See 'round, fella."

Too Wet

Yesterday, Virginia Jones of BADP showed you a cotton boll left behind in the picking.  Today, I show you a cotton field that hasn't been picked yet, and probably won't be for a little while because the rain this week and fog this morning have left the cotton too wet.
