Zoo and Gardens

JoPaul and I went to the zoo and botanical gardens yesterday morning.

The flamingos like to bury their heads and give you the evil eye if you look at them.
The Eye

This was the only one of the Macaws that was out sunning.
Good Morning

The water lily pond, or reflecting pool, was filled with beautiful lilies. I love the surface tension of the water around the leaf.

These guys love the water lilies, or maybe they love the little things that are hatching out in the pond

I like how the dragonflies pose for you.

War Eagle!

My youngest son went to Auburn, but I was a fan before then.  This is NOT one of their eagles, but certainly looks like one.

Baldy

Yeah, yeah, . . . it's a zoo shot, and an old one at that, but hey, that's the best place for some shots.  At least it's close by.

Pelican Ouch!

I don't know which is the Democrat and which is the Republican.

Boo!

A couple of the ponds at the Birmingham Zoo are completely covered in this green vegetation, not sure what it is, but it really looks like some sort of swamp in southern Louisiana.  It makes the perfect hiding place for our friend, Mr. Gator.

Wail!

This guy normally wanders around the Birmingham Zoo, not really making a nuisance of himself, but scarfing up any of the available food pellets the come within reach.
Occasionally, though, he'll just settle down, maybe on a new bed of straw, and watch all the people go by.
In the right light, his feathers can be so blue it hurts my eyes.

Cooling Off

The best way to cool off on a hot day at the Birmingham Zoo, although I think they would frown if Gramps tried to join in.

The Queen.

A serene lioness sits on her throne at the Birmingham Zoo.
