Nandina

Nandina Berries

A widely cultivated Asian evergreen (purple?), but these grow wild in my woods.  Bird droppings, I guess.

The white sycamore bark shines through my woods in the winter.

Winter Hydrangea

Oak Leaf Hydrangea

These do not drop all their flowers in winter.  Some just sort of dry up and turn white.

Rose of Sharon in Winter

Rose of Sharon

Love the look of the seed pods in winter, but hate the way these things spring up hundreds of baby plants.

The Day After The Storm

A little tour of our property on Wednesday, the day after the storm.  I don't often post this many photos in one post, but this doesn't often happen here.
Bird tracks everywhere as they swarmed the feeders and the surrounding ground.

Waiting their turn at the feeders.

 Picking up the droppings.

The driveway was impassably covered with ice and snow.

Almost busted it out there by the road.  Couldn't walk on it, so I wasn't going to drive on it.

Some had already melted, even though it was well below freezing all day.

Not going to get charged up today.

 Love the River Birch.

 Just a stump.

And a pitchfork for the compost pile.

Don't need one of these to slide today.

 But too cold to swing.

Or even just sit and relax.

But I can walk down through the woods.

 Another stump,

 And dead trees.

 Our little wet weather stream.

Some of the early Spring flowers were in for a shock.

Don't often see it looking like this.

And then today we swept off a path to the hot tub.  That was pretty nice, till our ears got cold.
