The 2 Things Challenge this week is Dirty/Teal. Yes, the color teal did run through my mind and I was trying to think of a dirty teal colored pond, or perhaps some of my wife's knitting yarn, artistically positioned with a pile of dirt or something. Then I had a vague recollection of a bird called a teal. I looked it up, and a blue winged teal is a small, dabbling, fresh-water duck. Hmmm. I remember some ducks from when we went to Maine. Sure enough, when I looked at the photos, I had some photos of blue winged teals. This one was dabbling around on a basketball court, and she had gotten dirty in the process.

Very interesting about this duck called a blue winged teal, because as I was looking through my archives, I found a photo of a duck that looks just like this one! Only mine is from a lake up in Pa.
Dare I post mine too?? LOL
Why are they called "blue" winged teals? Are their wings blue when they take flight?
Yes, they have a set of feathers on their wings that are blue. In some of the other photos I made (which were mostly terrible because it was late, low light, and they wouldn't be still, so their heads were always a blur), you can see the blue feathers poking out.
Cool! Now I know the name of this duck, so next time I go up to the lake in Pa, I will take notice of the wing feathers on the ducks there.
Oh!..btw...I did post the photo of my blue winged teal! : )
Hope you don't mind.
