2 Things Challenge Ugly/Pretty

The 2 Things Challenge this week is Ugly/Pretty.

I used another photo of this dog a while back in the Big/Little challenge where he posed with his son. But here, he's just not paying any attention to anyone. Chillin' on a warm day. Now I find this guy to easily fit into the Ugly category, although his owner and lovers of the breed would probably disagree vehemently. But how about the Pretty side? Usually "pretty" is an adjective, but I'm invoking a second meaning of the word when it is used as an adverb. There it can mean either "moderately", or even "very." Take your pick, but I think he's "Pretty Ugly."

2 Things Challenge Prize/Door

The 2 Things Challenge for this week is Prize/Door. This actual door is only plate glass and aluminum, but ooh the prize. First, there's the curly design on the burglar bars, neat. But even better is the inside of the store. It's like the old hardware stores when I was growing up, stacked floor to ceiling with all sorts of stuff to explore and see, like Brute plastic garbage cans, a metal garbage can full of holes on the side (what's up with that?), and a sign for Presto Cookers in the window. And this one is right in downtown Birmingham in the heart of Five Points South. I also loved the pattern in the brick facade. They just don't bother with that stuff in the new strip malls and the corner Ace Hardware or Lowe's.

Happy Valentine's Day

Well, everyone else seems to be doing a Valentine's Day post, and even though it's already evening, I thought I'd do one too. This is a still life I did as an assignment on "Romance" in a class a couple of years back. It's completely candle lit, no flash.

2 Things Challenge Safe/Passage

The 2 Things Challenge this week is Safe / Passage. While for me personally, this does NOT qualify as a safe passage from an airplane to the ground, for these three fellows it was. They sky dived in to the Hot Air Balloon Festival at Decatur Alabama a couple of years ago. While I was there, the wind was too high for the balloons to fly, but it did not prevent these guys, and they all had pin point landings.

The Two Things Challenge for this week is Native / Exotic. I present to you two birds from the Birmingham Zoo. The first is most definitely native to this area. The second is not, and therefore rather exotic.

Alabama Sunrise

I stepped out the back door one day last week and this is what I saw. Grabbed the camera, grabbed the shot, and then thought about changing to a more vivid setting, but alas, it was already gone.

There's Hope!

Yesterday was the last day of possibly the coldest January on record in the Birmingham area, when what to my wondering eyes did appear? The first crocuses of the season! Yeah!! There is hope that we'll soon have something besides brown to use in our photos.
