The 2 Things Challenge for this week is Prize/Door. This actual door is only plate glass and aluminum, but ooh the prize. First, there's the curly design on the burglar bars, neat. But even better is the inside of the store. It's like the old hardware stores when I was growing up, stacked floor to ceiling with all sorts of stuff to explore and see, like Brute plastic garbage cans, a metal garbage can full of holes on the side (what's up with that?), and a sign for Presto Cookers in the window. And this one is right in downtown Birmingham in the heart of Five Points South. I also loved the pattern in the brick facade. They just don't bother with that stuff in the new strip malls and the corner Ace Hardware or Lowe's.

We don't see awnings like this anymore. I always shop at our local hardware store.
You are so right... you don't see awnings like this everywhere. But there are a few quaint old towns that still have this kind of charm. I frequent several hardware stores and none of them look like this.

I so agree about old hardware stores. So fun to explore!
Somehow I missed your safe/passage post. I like that one too!
I agree with you about an old fashioned hardware store being the real prize. I miss those around PV - couldn't compete with Home Depot, OSH, Loew's. But out in the desert there is a charming Mom & Son one at Pearblossom and a True Value at Lake Los Angeles.
